How Superior University GPA and CGPA are calculated
Superior University grades absolutely. Its undergraduate regulations publish a fixed "Table for Award of Grades" mapping percentage marks straight to a letter and a grade point, so your grade depends only on your own marks, not on how your section performed. That makes the marks-to-grade table genuinely useful to know before results are out.
The bands are unusually tight. Most Pakistani universities use five-mark bands. Superior uses four across almost the whole scale, and its A starts at 86 rather than the more common 85. One extra mark moves you a whole grade more often here than almost anywhere else, which is why the rounding rule below matters.
Add one semester at a time, one row per course. You get each semester's SGPA together with the running CGPA up to that semester, plus a transcript-style PDF export when you want the whole record in one place.
The Formula
SGPA = Σ (Grade Point × Credit Hours) ÷ Σ (Credit Hours) // one semesterCGPA = Σ (Grade Point × Credit Hours) ÷ Σ (Credit Hours) // all semestersSuperior's regulations exclude W, I and R courses from both sums. An F is different. It scores 0.00 grade points, but its credit hours stay in the divisor. SGPA and CGPA are rounded to two decimal places on the transcript.
Worked Examples
Example 1: one semester's SGPA
A 15-credit-hour semester, converting marks to Superior grades first.
| Programming Fundamentals: 88 marks → A (4.00), 3 CH | 3 × 4.00 = 12.00 |
|---|---|
| Calculus: 83 marks → A- (3.67), 3 CH | 3 × 3.67 = 11.01 |
| Business Communication: 79 marks → B+ (3.33), 3 CH | 3 × 3.33 = 9.99 |
| Statistics: 71 marks → B- (2.67), 3 CH | 3 × 2.67 = 8.01 |
| Pakistan Studies: 64 marks → C (2.00), 3 CH | 3 × 2.00 = 6.00 |
| Total grade points | 12.00 + 11.01 + 9.99 + 8.01 + 6.00 = 47.01 |
| Total credit hours | 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 15 |
Example 2: how one mark changes a grade
Two students in the same 3-credit course, one on 85 marks and one on 86.
| 85 marks falls in the 82–85 band | A- → 3 × 3.67 = 11.01 |
|---|---|
| 86 marks falls in the 86–100 band | A → 3 × 4.00 = 12.00 |
| Difference in grade points | 12.00 − 11.01 = 0.99 |
Superior University Grading Scale
Superior University's official marks-to-grade table from its undergraduate regulations. Because Superior grades absolutely, these percentage bands are fixed. Unlike at a relatively graded university, you can work out your grade before results are announced.
| Grade | Marks % | Grade Points |
|---|---|---|
| A | 86 and above | 4.00 |
| A- | 82 – 85 | 3.67 |
| B+ | 78 – 81 | 3.33 |
| B | 74 – 77 | 3.00 |
| B- | 70 – 73 | 2.67 |
| C+ | 66 – 69 | 2.33 |
| C | 62 – 65 | 2.00 |
| C- | 58 – 61 | 1.67 |
| D+ | 54 – 57 | 1.33 |
| D | 50 – 53 | 1.00 |
| F | Below 50 | 0.00 |
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the exact marks needed for an A at Superior?
86 and above. This catches people out, because many Pakistani universities set the A band at 85. The Superior regulations put it one mark higher, so 82–85 earns an A- instead. The same one-mark shift runs down the table. B+ is 78–81, B is 74–77, and so on in four-mark steps.
How are marks rounded before the grade is awarded?
Superior rounds once, after the in-semester and final examination marks are added together, and it rounds from the first decimal. So 67.5 becomes 68 and 67.4 becomes 67. Because the bands are only four marks wide, that one rounding step decides your grade far more often than at universities with wider bands. A 77.5 rounds to 78 and turns a B into a B+.
What is the minimum passing mark?
50%. That earns a D (1.00), the lowest passing grade, covering 50–53 marks. Anything below 50 is an F worth 0.00 grade points, and the course has to be retaken. Passing a course is not the same as staying in good standing. That depends on your CGPA, not on individual grades.
Does an F count towards my Superior CGPA?
Yes, and it hurts twice. An F gives 0.00 grade points, and its credit hours stay in the divisor. Enter it as a normal row with its real credit hours, and the calculator handles the zero correctly.
How do W, I and R grades affect the calculation?
They don't. Superior's SGPA and CGPA formulas explicitly exclude courses marked W (withdrawal) and I (incomplete), and the CGPA formula also excludes R (replaced grade). None of them carry grade points and none of their credit hours count, so leave those courses out of the calculator entirely.
I improved a course. Which attempt should I enter?
The one that stands on your transcript as the counted grade. Superior marks a superseded attempt with R (replaced), and R is excluded from the CGPA formula, so enter only the attempt that replaced it.
Does this apply to Superior's Faisalabad, Sargodha and RYK campuses?
Yes. The grading table comes from the university-wide undergraduate academic regulations rather than any single campus policy, so the same marks-to-grade mapping applies across Superior's campuses. Assessment weightings can still differ by programme. The split between in-semester and final marks is set per course, but the grade awarded for a final percentage is the same.
